Organised by Alltech, it’s the first of its kind and will gather together trade exhibitors, food pairing experts, world-renowned beer judges and international trade professionals under one roof for two days of learning, networking and entertainment.
Focusing on needs and trends in the craft brewing and distilling industry, the Convention is aimed at brewing and distilling enthusiasts and professionals.

It features a full programme of educational talks and demonstrations covering many facets of craft brewing and distilling.
The programme includes two separate streams: an intensive session of technical topics offered as part of the Alltech Brewing and Distilling Academy and a series of basic courses that provide an introduction for newer brewers and distillers. Attendees can choose which stream to attend according to their areas of interest and technical knowledge. Sessions range from double distillation to hops choice, through system sanitation to marketing your product to the consumer.

Attendees will also gain entry to an Entrepreneur Seminar taking place on Friday 19th July in Dublin’s Convention Centre. This provides an insight into the rules of successful entrepreneurship – how to grow a businesses, reach new audiences and develop new technologies and talents – a must for all budding entrepreneurs.

Also featured is the Dublin Craft Beer Cup where brew will be pitted against brew in seven different categories. Local breweries will compete head-to-head with craft beers from across the globe. Entries will be sorted into their respective categories and a winner will be chosen by a panel of judges selected from the ranks of the brewing industry.

Pairing up for food
Restaurateurs are leaning more and more towards pairing their dishes with beers and spirits. To give brewers and distillers that extra edge, the convention will also feature The Pair and Taste Pavilion and Pavilion Bar where experts in the field will demonstrate how to effectively pair a beer or spirit with various foods.

Social programme

The Convention will also feature a full social programme, kicking-off on Thursday 18th July with ‘WoodSongs’, a concert celebrating the connection between Irish traditional music and its American cousin Bluegrass. Acts confirmed so far include Mary Black, Paul Brady and We Banjo 3, with more acts to be announced soon. On Friday, attendees will be invited to break out their cowboy boots and Stetsons for Kentucky Happy Hour, a networking opportunity for all attendees featuring live entertainment with Irish and Bluegrass music.

Alltech
“I began my career in brewing and distilling and it has remained a passion of mine ever since,” commented Alltech’s President and founder Dr Pearse Lyons, “Despite spending the previous 30 years in the animal nutrition industry I never strayed far from brewing and distilling, founding my company on yeast technology and eventually opening a joint brewery and distillery in Alltech’s home of Lexington, Kentucky.

“Today, our industry is in need of assistance and education, especially in the areas of quality control, the brewing process itself and in the ability to produce a beer that has transportability.

“The International Craft Brewing and Distilling Convention is designed to gather brewers and distillers from all levels across the world in Dublin to hone their craft and network with each other. It has always been a dream of mine to come back to Ireland and The Gathering has provided the perfect platform for that.”

As part of The Gathering, he has arranged a series of Gathering initiatives and hosting this Convention in Dublin is an integral part of this programme.
