Nearby Ireland has crowned Una Curran as Nearby Ireland Local Legend.

The retail group has been on the lookout over the past few months for their Local Legend or Legends in the local community.

Customers of Nearby Ireland have been visiting stores to ensure their local community group or person gets nominated for all the great work they do within their own community.

From community groups who make a real difference to individuals who go out of their way to help others; there has been an overwhelming response to the campaign with entries pouring in online, through our web and social channels as well as in each Nearby store.

‘Worthy winner’

The judging panel was finally able to narrow it down allowing the Nearby Ireland team to surprise the winner Curran who is a self-employed mindfulness & wellness teacher.

It was clear from the influx of nominations at Curran’s local Nearby store in Dunboyne that she was a worthy winner already.

The prize was a €500 cheque from Nearby Ireland to reward Curran for all the important work that she does not only in her local community, but the wider community in Co. Meath and beyond.

Mindfulness and well-being

Curran provides activities and social opportunities for adults and children with autism and learning disabilities in the Dunboyne area and beyond through mindfulness and well-being classes.

Commenting, Ollie Donnelly, Nearby brand marketing officer, said: “The work that Una [Curran] does throughout the community often goes unnoticed in the grand scheme of ‘self-help’ in the modern day.

“With more and more distinction being placed on mental well-being and mindfulness this work is finally getting the recognition it deserves and is why we are delighted here at Nearby to not only be able to support in this way but to raise awareness of these classes available from people like Una across the country.”

‘Felling valued’

Louise Young, a current client of Curran along with her child, was one of the many who nominated Curran to become the Nearby Local Legend for 2024.

Young, noted: “Una provides fantastic services for the kids and parents in her group, she’s so deserving of the award as she not only works with special needs children, but also the parents and even siblings, making everyone feel valued in a comfortable setting.”

The competition was the latest activity undertaken by the Nearby team to support the brand’s community campaign.

The campaign highlights the importance of their Nearby store in the community and how the store can be seen as the hub for many.

“I think it’s really important that the likes of Nearby has these awards because it shows that they are part of the community and how much they value their customers by showcasing how important it is to have Local Legends nearby, ” Young added.
