Dublin Ladies Gaelic Football Captain Carla Rowe was the guest of honour to cut the ribbon and officially open Lidl Ireland’s brand-new store on Main Street Upper in Newcastle, Dublin, this morning. 

Crowds gathered early to be amongst the first shoppers across the door to enjoy opening day entertainment and exclusive in-store offers.

Highly anticipated opening

The highly anticipated new store offers customers a premium shopping experience, with a modern fit out including high ceilings, wide aisles, and a large sales floor.

The first ten shoppers through the doors received complimentary vouchers to shop Lidl’s renowned range of high-quality products at market-leading value, and huge savings on middle aisle favourites. 

To mark the opening, the store team in Newcastle welcomed John Kinsella from neighbouring St Finian’s Community Hall to accept a donation of €1,000 in Lidl vouchers. 

The volunteer-led group run the local facility for the benefit of the whole community, providing a welcoming space for everyone to socialise and avail of support.

“We’ve been looking forward to finally opening the doors of our brand new, state-of-the-art store here in Newcastle,” said Dawn Hayden, store manager, Lidl Newcastle.

Booming community

Newcastle is a booming community, and this new store opening has been highly anticipated by local residents. 

“With this new store opening, we have a brand-new team of 30 colleagues, and it’s been a very proud moment for us as we’ve worked hard behind the scenes to get the store ready. It’s great to see the team’s hard work pay off with a successful opening today.”

“The atmosphere here at the opening of Lidl Newcastle has been fantastic, it’s great to see local shoppers out enjoying the new store and snapping up those opening day bargains,” said Dublin captain Carla Rowe.

Rowe notes that Newcastle the new Lidl store is a significant addition to the town and a great place to shop.

The opening of Lidl’s Newcastle store represents a major investment for Lidl, both in the local community and in its wider retail estate portfolio which now comprises a network of 52 stores in Dublin alone.
