Circle K acquires nine forecourts from Pelco

 Circle K, has recently announced that it has reached an agreement to acquire a total of nine forecourt and convenience locations from convenience retail group, Pelco.

The acquisition is subject to approval from the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC).

Of the nine locations which Circle K are acquiring, seven are situated in Dublin with one in Co. Meath and one in Co. Westmeath.

Dublin

  • Airside, Nevinstown, Swords, Co Dublin
  • Dublin Street, Balbriggan, Co. Dublin
  • Newtown, Malahide Road, Dublin 17
  • Butterly Business Park, Kilmore Road, Beaumont, Dublin 5
  • Rathfarnham Road, Rathfarnham, Dublin 14
  • R125 Rolestown East, Co. Dublin
  • Dublin Road, Townparks, Skerries, Co. Dublin

Meath

  • Batterstown, Co. Meath

Westmeath

  • Robinstown Road, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath

Employment

The forecourt and convenience retailer noted that a total of 142 staff are currently employed at the locations in question all of whom will become employees of Circle K and will continue working at the nine locations.

This will bring Circle K’s total number of employees in Ireland to 2,574.

Growth strategy

The acquisition will increase the number of Circle K company owned and operated stores from 168 to 177.

Alongside its dealer partner network of 242 locations, the total number of Circle K locations in Ireland will stand at 419.

Ciara Foxton, managing director, Circle K Ireland, commented: “This acquisition is a key part of Circle K’s growth strategy and will significantly enhance our established and extensive convenience store and forecourt network.

“Every week, we welcome approximately 1.5 million customers to our stores, and this will now enable us to serve the needs of even more customers in Ireland, providing them with the quality products and services they come to expect when they visit Circle K.”

Rebrand 

According to the company, the rebrand and integration of the nine stores will take place over the coming months with existing offerings at these locations such as deli, car wash and other facilities now set to be integrated into the overall Circle K product and service offering.

The recent announcement builds on sustained investment by Circle K in the Irish market since its arrival in 2016, with a total of €230 million invested in that period, it added.

Investment has ‘encompassed the addition of new state of the art motorway, residential and city centre locations, the upgrade and development of existing forecourt locations, as well as a range of other brand, fuel, sustainable fuel and electric vehicle and wider infrastructural developments.’
