Lidl Ireland has offered a welcome economic boost to the capital with two new stores on Balcurris Road in Ballymun, and Shackleton Drive in west Dublin, in addition to the retailer’s new city centre store on Aungier Street which opened on 15 October.

The new stores have supported more than 550 jobs through the construction phase and will create an additional 59 new permanent jobs with the retailer. Lidl states the developments have also seen an investment of more than €21 million into the local communities.

Ballymun Kickhams star and local Ballymun hero, Paddy Christie, was on site to officially open the new state-of-the-art Lidl store in Ballymun. To mark the opening, Lidl Ballymun welcomed representatives from Ballymun Regional Youth Resource Centre to accept a donation of €1,000 to help to support the work they do to empower young people from Ballymun and the surrounding areas.

Twenty minutes away in Shackleton in northwest of the capital, Shackleton’s new Lidl store on Shackleton Drive also opened their doors. The store team also arranged a charitable donation of €1,000 to support Lucan Disability Action Group.

A welcome feature of these modern new builds is a large bakery section, welcoming shoppers daily with the smell of freshly baked breads and pastries, one of Lidl’s most popular ranges. A Lidl to Go coffee machine is also available giving customers the option of a wallet friendly hot beverage for only €1.

The new buildings are bright and airy with a spacious interior layout, high ceilings and wide aisles creating a comfortable shopping experience for customers. The stores will feature convenient car park spaces on site, including reserved spaces for families and disabled shoppers.

The modern buildings are fully equipped with an ISO 50001 certified Energy Management System as well as a spacious interior layout, high ceilings and wide aisles creating a comfortable shopping experience for customers.

“Right from the beginning of this project we received phenomenal support from the local community and after months of preparation, it is fantastic to officially open our brand-new Ballymun store,” said Darren Molloy, store manager at Lidl Ballymun.

“The past number of months have been challenging for everyone, so it is nice to have some good news to share and to bring unbeatable prices to our customers in Shackleton and Ballymun as we have throughout the country for the past 20 years,” added Kate Bohan, store manager for Lidl Shackleton.
