Lidl Ireland has announced it will open the doors to its brand-new store in Newcastle, Co Dublin, on Thursday 22 August, with LGFA star and Dublin captain Carla Rowe set to officially cut the ribbon on the significant new retail development.

Located at Main Street Upper in Newcastle, the opening of the new store represents a significant retail boost for the local area, offering shoppers access to Ireland’s best value retailer, alongside two additional retail outlets.

The opening of the Newcastle store has also created 30 permanent new jobs for the local area and takes the retailer’s store count to 52 within County Dublin.

Construction commenced on the site in January and supported more than 40 construction jobs during the build phase.

New store

The new Lidl store boasts a large sales floor, offering customers a premium shopping experience, with wide aisles, two Deposit Return Scheme machines, long tills, customer restrooms and baby-changing facilities as well as an in-store bakery and off licence.

Externally, the store benefits from regenerative landscaping and a spacious customer car park with dedicated EV charging spaces.

The Newcastle store will also incorporate a range of sustainability features including a certified Energy Management System, high performing energy efficient technologies and the installation of highly efficient solar panels.

Meet Carla Rowe

With the doors due to open at 8am on Thursday 22 August, early bird shoppers can get their chance to meet and greet LGFA star and Dublin Captain Carla Rowe and enjoy special in store entertainment and opening day offers.

“After a challenging championship season, I’m honoured to be asked to cut the ribbon on the new store and I’m excited to get the chance to meet with Lidl shoppers and celebrate the opening with everyone. It’s great news for Newcastle and a very positive boost for the area,” said Carla Rowe.

“This project has been highly anticipated by the local community and their ongoing support for the project at every stage has been extremely positive and very much appreciated,” said Damien Ryan, property director, Lidl Ireland.

Lidl Ireland currently employs more than 6,000 employees in its 179 stores, Head Office in Tallaght and three distribution centres and regional offices based in Charleville, Mullingar and Newbridge.
