McWilliam’s Wines, the antipodean group with dozens of varieties produced all over Australia, has appointed Ampersand to represent its wine portfolio in Ireland

A newly announced partnership between Ampersand and the McWilliam’s group of table and fortified wines from Australia will see the group’s considerable portfolio marketed and distributed in Ireland, in both the on and off-trade. Garrick Harvison, head of international for McWilliam’s Wines Group said he and the board were very impressed by Ampersand’s diverse channels in Ireland. “We were also impressed by their know-how with Australia’s fine wines,” he added, “having previously represented McWilliam’s in Ireland almost 20 years ago.

According to Harvison, McWilliam’s was in search of a distributor who could articulate the provenance of its brands. “With 140 years of wine,” he said, “that is no mean feat. But we are sure we have found the right partner.”

Ampersand wine manager Willie Dardis said that the distributor is equally delighted at the new partnership. “McWilliam’s is exactly the kind of wine partner we look to work with,” he said. “It is family-owned and quality-driven, with provenance and innovation evident in a stunning line-up of wines.

“We look forward to representing and developing McWilliam’s sales in Ireland once again,” he added.

McWilliam’s Maurice O’Shea, Lovedale Semillon and Rosehill Shiraz varieties are regarded as some of Australia’s most iconic wines.
