While I spent the summer in California this year, I had my first real introduction into wine and particularly red wine. This was a big jump for me from my normal brew, but with guidance from some locals, I have started to see wine in a different way. Relaxing on the warm evenings with a nice glass of wine made the distance from home seem less.

So on my return home and back working in Carry Out Tyrrelstown I was on the lookout for something special that would fulfil a new love for wines. I was delighted when we were sampling in the shop a new wine; Mission Sud Cabernet-Syrah.

The wine pours a bright deep red and has rich and luxurious feel to it. The flavour is very intense, you can really taste the berries with a toasty vanilla note, that I’m told comes from the oak ageing. It really feels wonderfully smooth in your mouth, which seems to go on and on. It is really great with cheese and last Sunday’s rib of beef was really enhanced by the wine.

It’s from the south of France near Beziers and at only €7.99 at the moment; it’s also within my budget.
