No statistics have been compiled on domestic violence in Ireland since 2007.

This emerged at the 41st VFI Conference held in Westport recently when VFI Chief Executive Padraig Cribben told delegates that he’d been seeking such information over the past 12 to 18 months only to find that it did not exist.He did not know why and had even gone to other organisations involved in such matters to discover that they were “in the same boat” in terms of official statistics on domestic violence.

The Chief Executive was responding to a question put to the floor by Wexford’s John Doyle who sought statistics on the number of people killed or injured during ‘house parties’ and the number of times Gardai had been called to violence at such parties over the last number of years.
