‘Spar Rome Comforts’ winners meet sprint stars
Spars competition sees winners Louise and Donal Cuddy meet Rhasidat Adeleke and Israel Olatunde at the European Athletics Championship

Spar’s legacy continues as the principal sponsor of the biennial European Athletics Championships, which has so far witnessed incredible performances and victories for Team Ireland.
In the lead up to the Championship, Ireland’s leading convenience retailer partnered with Irish record-breaking athlete, Israel Olatunde and 4 x 400m relay new European gold medal winner, Rhasidat Adeleke to launch the ‘Spar Rome Comforts’ competition.
The consumer competition, which delivered more than 2.6 million plays on TikTok, called on the Irish public to show why we are known as the best fans in the world, by sending messages of support for Rhasidat and Israel.
Winning entry
The winning entry was submitted by Louise Cuddy.
In her winning entry, Cuddy, said: “I fell in love with athletics as a child 30 years ago, watching Sonia win European gold.
“I’m so excited and emotional now watching this generation of Irish athletes with my son.
“Rhasidat and Israel and all the team, you’re taking the sport to new levels! Wishing you so much luck in Rome and Paris and thanks for all the enjoyment!”

Spar has sponsored the European Athletics Championships since 1996, supported more than 80 competitions in 28 years and promoted healthy living through sport and a balanced diet.
