Tesco has recently opened its 180th store in the bustling Shannon Town Centre, creating 44 new jobs in the local community.
Councillors Tony Mulcahy and Donna McGettigan officially gave the new store their ‘number one’ today as they helped cut the ribbon and the excitement went up a notch when customer Jim Fogerty became the first person to cast their vote in the first round of the Community Fund linked to the new store.
Community Fund
Three local community groups will benefit from the Community Fund, which aims to make a positive impact in the areas Tesco serves.
These groups include Shannon Family Resource Centre, Shannon Athletics Club, and Shannon Active Retirement. Shannon Family Resource Centre will also benefit from this year’s Christmas Food Collection.
Customers donated non-perishable food items to benefit local Family Resource Centres and community groups providing support to families in the local community.
Strong presence
“Our investment here, along with existing stores at Shannon Banks, Ennis and Kilrush, means we have a strong presence across the county to offer the very best of Tesco quality, affordability, and shopping experience to customers,” said Geoff Byrne, chief operating officer, Tesco Ireland.
“This is a significant day for me and my brilliant team,” said Louise Fahey, store manager, Tesco Shannon Town Centre.
The team has worked incredibly hard to prepare for the opening, and can’t wait to get to know its new customers.
“We know there is great excitement in the area about the new store, and we hope everyone will be pleased with what we have to offer.”
Enhanced experience
Customers can enjoy features such as an in-store bakery with freshly baked breads and pastries, a coffee station serving hot beverages, a Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) machine, and energy-saving doors on fridges. These additions are designed to enhance the shopping experience and promote sustainability.
Through Tesco’s food surplus redistribution programme, partners like FoodCloud and OLIO Food Waste Heroes will ensure that no good food goes to waste.
Additionally, the Shannon team will continue to support Tesco’s charity partner, Children’s Health Foundation, which aids sick children in CHI at Crumlin, Connolly, Temple St, and Tallaght hospitals.
