The UK pub chain with some 900 pubs under its belt has purchased the former Newport Cafe in Paul Street Plaza, Cork and is to invest more than £1.5 million developing the project.
The site, currently shut, will require both planning and licensing permission. No date has been given for opening the premises but the company aims to have the new-look pub open by April next year.
Wetherspoon founder and Chairman Tim Martin commented, “ We’re looking at other sites throughout the Republic of Ireland and hopefully they will come to fruition in the near future.”
